I’ve been totally addicted to ravelry, as I’m sure many of you can agree.. I seem to browse more than I post, but it’s coming along…
Stop by my page! www.ravelry.com/people/kpixie
It’s part me, part kpixie… because many of my designs that were already up there we tagged as kpixie/midnightknitter.
I also created a group for kpixie.com lovers, join if you’d like! click the button
(you have to be a ravelry user of course to get in, if you aren’t signed up yet, get on the ravelry waiting list!)
I see my last post was about xmas, I can hardly even remember what I got for xmas! One thing though, I got the new Flip Video thingy, it is SO cool… you take videos and can upload them to YouTube very quickly with the software… i totally love it.
Here’s one of Josie dancing for a cookie, with a little song that comes with the software, so funny.
Also for xmas, Brian designed and built some really cool lighting for the kitchen and hallway! We got some great kitchen chairs yesterday too…
And we did some more work in the office.
yeah, i have WAY too many books.
On the knitting and crochet front, I’ve got a few projects in the works. There were a bunch finished for xmas that I never got around to taking photos of, too bad! But here is a hat and mitten set for my cousin. The pattern for the mittens is here (see “punk wrist warmers v.2″), the hat pattern coming soon!
I also have a pair of socks underway, done in Sockotta color 362.
And a Spring/Summer top, raglan, it will be 3/4 sleeves. This Lana Grossa New Cotton Lino is really great, nice and stretchy and really soft. A great summer yarn. sorry for the serious face,
it’s the only photo that didn’t come out blurry! ;-)
Oh, and this newsboy crochet hat is done! pattern coming soon… It’s done up in the Blue Sky Alpacas Suri Merino, so fluffy soft.
Well, that’s it for now… glad to see everyone working on some great projects! Even if I’m not posting I’m always “stalking” ;)
i’ve never been an Etsy addict before, i have been an Ebay addict
i remember a while back when i was a bit upset that Etsy was taking on ”stores” that sold materials… i thought it would cloud the artists that inhabit the online community… but now, about a year later, i am not only addicted to viewing the artist/crafter created items, but the materials too!! there are items you just cant find in the common craft store or even online stores… someone save me!!! i just cant stop browsing…
Gives me a chance to work with Vickie Howell Craft yarn and an opportunity to make a baby sweater.
I do love this yarn, knits up soft and has a little bit of a ”milk fiber” halo.
Speaking of yarns, i have a huge crush on Plymouth Boku, we just got some new colors in the shop and i’m having a hard time not dreaming about working with the yarn again. i have so many WIP’s right now though, so maybe the Boku dreams will make me finish them.
the new crochetme.com and the new freakin awesome book!
I got my copy in the mail today, it totally rocks. I want to make almost everything in it. A great read too! Lots of in depth tips and details, great designer profiles, tons of content to spark creativity.
And speaking of, if you’re close to Webs, go there today at 2pm for the US launch party for the book! Wish I could be there to support Kim, not that she needs any help, shes a firecracker.
I added myself to the crochetme.com group of crocheters, added a couple patterns too. I really want to write a “tips” section…
and I started an octupus neck charm in Karabella Lace Mohair
so… since the Crochet Me Book will be available soon,
you can actually pre-order it from Amazon!
(that’s my design, bottom middle)
i thought i would share some of my process sketches and photos
1. here is my first sketch of the sweater pattern
2. this is the first “swatch” with a yarn i did not use for the pattern… i was looking for a yarn that had a nice drape horizontally… the pattern is crocheted from side-to-side, so instead of the normal “stripes” that go horizontal, the work is rotated so that the lines are vertical…
3. i ended up getting great stretch in the fabric with RYC Cashsoft DK … a surprisingly affordable merino, microfiber and cashmere blend
4. here’s the part where i ripped and ripped and ripped, trying to find the perfect stitch for the pattern… it was more fun than it sounds!
5. time goes by
-crochet pieces get finished
-assembly is taking place
-math is being done
-and countless hours of double checking
6. voila! perfect stitch found, assembly done
these are the photos i sent for pre-approval, along with some schematics i had to draw out
7. i then had to send the sweater (oh god, this is where i was in total panic, my hard work was going out the door, never to be touched again… but i DID get to touch it at the TNNA show where it was on display at the Interweave Press booth!) with all the sizes mapped out… i think i double checked my work about 20 times, sweating the whole time.
8. then a sigh of relief as my sweater was well received and going to photography
9. oh yeah, then i had Brian take like 100 photos of me because i had to choose a photo to go with my bio! (ps. Kim Werker re-worked my bio, i had mini tears when i read it, she’s so good at picking out what “makes you YOU”)
10. oh yeah, then sit and wait for the book to come out!
it really is the BEST crochet pattern book, i saw many at the tradeshow and the Crochet Me one out-shined them all… totally wearable designs, trendy, GORGEOUS photography… anthropologie style
Kim Werker of crochetme.com is the one who put this all together… she not only contacted all the designers and made the book happen, she was there along the way to help out, she made sure the book lived up to her standards… i can’t say enough… she rocks!
